Senior Developer

We're looking for a Senior Full-Stack Developer to join our engineering team as we modernize our platform. You'll work across our stack, help lead an active migration away from legacy applications, and play a key role in leveling up our engineering practices as we grow. 

This is a hands-on technical role with a strong mentorship component. You'll be writing code daily, but you'll also be a go-to resource for junior engineers. You'll help unblock them and grow them into stronger developers. 

What You'll Do 

• Design, build, and ship features across our stack: Python/FastAPI on the backend, PostgreSQL for data persistence, occasionally light front end work with React. 
• Lead and contribute to the migration of legacy R Shiny applications to our modern stack 
• Design and maintain cloud infrastructure on AWS (storage, compute, and related services) 
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions 
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through pair programming, code review, and design discussions 
• Help define and improve engineering practices: coding standards, testing strategy, documentation, and architecture decisions 
• Participate in technical planning and contribute to decisions about system design and tooling 
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across the stack 

What We're Looking For 

Required: 

• 7+ years of professional software development experience 
• Strong proficiency with React and TypeScript 
• Strong proficiency with Python, and experience building APIs with FastAPI 
• Experience with relational databases 
• Experience with AWS services 
• DevOps experience, e.g. CI/CD with GitHub Actions 
• Experience with Docker and container orchestration 
• Demonstrated experience mentoring or guiding other engineers, whether through formal reports, code review, or informal technical leadership 
• Strong communication skills. Specifically, an ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders 

Nice to Have: 

• Experience with R or R Shiny (helpful for understanding what we're migrating away from, though not required) 
• Experience leading or contributing to legacy system migrations or rewrites 
• Experience with IAC, e.g. Terraform 
• Experience establishing engineering standards or practices at a growing company 

About the Software and ML Engineering team 

Our team focuses on automating and scaling scientific processes and research studies at Gubra. You will join a team of skilled software and ML engineers at Gubra HQ in Hørsholm, on the edge of Greater Copenhagen. 

You'll join at a pivotal time. Helping shape both the technical direction of our platform and the growth of the team building it. Your decisions on architecture, tooling, and process will have a direct and lasting impact.
