Lead Developer

Ready to shape real-world biotech software?
Gubra is looking for a Lead Developer to join our Software Solutions team. If you thrive on technical ownership, enjoy mentoring, and want to architect and build systems that accelerate drug discovery, this is your chance to make an impact.

You’ll be part of a stable and collaborative group of developers, data scientists, and a product owner, working together to build tools and applications that accelerate drug discovery and improve workflows across the company. Our systems support research, laboratory operations, pharmacology, and data analysis.

What You’ll Do

As Lead Developer, you’ll be entrusted with shaping the technical backbone of Gubra’s digital platforms. This is a strategic role for a senior engineer ready to lead with clarity, mentor with purpose, and build with long-term vision.

  • Architect and build scalable backend systems - use Python (FastAPI), SQL (Postgres) and Docker to design and build APIs, data pipelines, and AI-driven tools that support research, lab operations, and pharmacology.
  • Set technical direction - define and evolve our backend architecture, balancing maintainability, performance, and innovation.
  • Hands-on coding - you will be an active member of our development team, delivering high quality code and solutions to our users across the company.
  • Mentor and coach - guide developers through code reviews, technical deep-dives, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Drive DevOps & infrastructure improvements - you will be a main driver in improving our DevOps, DevEx and infrastructure landscape, as we move from an on-premises setup to the cloud.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally - work closely with our product owner and stakeholders to design data models and technical solutions for our user’s needs.

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years’ experience designing and scaling enterprise-grade backend systems
  • Expertise in Backend development and architecture. It is a plus if you know Python, R, TypeScript, or have worked with scientific data pipelines
  • Proven track record of mentoring and technical leadership in collaborative teams
  • Strong grasp of DevOps, DevEx, CI/CD, and cloud deployment
  • Experience in biotech or life sciences is a plus, but curiosity and purpose-driven mindset matter most

Our Stack

  • Backend: Python-FastAPI
  • Frontend: R-Shiny, TypeScript-React
  • Database: PostgreSQL
  • DevOps: CI/CD via GitHub Actions, Docker, Sentry
  • Infrastructure: On-premises and cloud, with plans to move more to cloud

Why Join Gubra?

At Gubra, your code contributes to cures. We’re not just a biotech company - we’re a digital-first organization where intelligent software drives scientific breakthroughs. As Lead Developer, you’ll help shape the tools that accelerate drug discovery, streamline lab operations, and empower researchers across disciplines.

You’ll join a stable, cross-functional team where:

  • Technical ownership is real - your architectural decisions shape the future of our platforms.
  • Collaboration is deep - developers, data scientists, and product owners work side-by-side to solve complex problems.
  • Growth is prioritized - we invest in knowledge sharing, mentoring, and continuous learning.
  • Flexibility is built-in - hybrid work options support focus and balance.
  • Culture matters - we foster openness, trust, and shared ownership, and we genuinely enjoy working together.

If you’re ready to lead with purpose and build software that matters, Gubra is the place to do it.

About Gubra

Gubra is an ambitious contract research organisation (CRO) and biotech company striving for excellence at all levels. We insist on doing things efficiently – and often differently - to reach the results we aim for. Our vision is to become leaders in the fight for a more sustainable and healthier world. We do that by facilitating the discovery of new medicine, and by acting and inspiring others to fight the ongoing climate and biodiversity crises.

Gubra’s activities are focused on the early stages of drug development and are organised in two highly synergistic business areas: CRO Services and Discovery & Partnerships (D&P). We generate our revenue by performing research for life science companies as well as by partnering projects from our discovery and development pipeline.

Our therapeutic focus is within metabolic and fibrotic diseases, and we specialize in in vivo pharmacology, ex vivo assays, drug profiling, histology, stereology and whole brain and organ imaging. In addition, we offer a full palette of advanced transcriptomics. Our ML/AI-driven peptide drug discovery platform streaMLine enables us to rapidly develop a peptide hit into a non-clinical candidate ready for development. Through a constant focus on high quality, scientific excellence, speed, and solid teamwork we have established ourselves as a highly professional and competent partner in the market.

People are our greatest asset, and our team consists of +280 employees all located in Hørsholm, Denmark. The mix of people from different cultures and educational backgrounds combined with our entrepreneurial mindset have greatly impacted our working environment, which is characterized by entrepreneurial drive, scientific curiosity, and teamwork – we join forces!
