Industrial PhD candidate in target discovery and chronic kidney diseases at Gubra

Gubra is looking for a highly capable and pro-active newly educated scientist to advance Gubra’s target discovery activities. The candidate will fill a newly established position in our growing Assay & NGS department with the aim of conducting a 3-year industrial PhD, already funded by Innovation Fund Denmark. The project is in collaboration with the PRIMETIME project, several hospital departments including Herlev Hospital, and Århus University.

Gubra is an ambitious biotech company striving for excellence at all levels. We insist on doing things efficiently – and often differently - to reach the results we aim for. Our vision is to become leaders in the fight for a more sustainable and healthier world. We do that by facilitating the discovery of new medicine, and by acting and inspiring others to fight against the ongoing climate and biodiversity crises.

The Assay & NGS department is an interdisciplinary team consisting of 7 scientists and 5 technicians. We deliver high-quality immunoassay and biochemical analysis as well as RNA sequencing data supporting customers, internal and partnered research projects with scientific input and data. We strongly believe in advancing science by continuously testing our hypotheses and trying to answer questions by conducting scientific studies in the laboratory. We strive to work smarter and consequently seek to automate manual tasks, thereby liberating resources for innovation and scientific challenges.

You are a self-motivated scientist with skills to navigate and collaborate in an energetic organization and you meet our high ambitions when it comes to study design and biological insight. You have a strong passion for target discovery and is ready to set high quality standards for data deliveries. You see the advantages in automatization and digitalization of processes, and you thrive to do things smarter and optimize.

As Scientist in Assay & NGS, your tasks will include:

  • Conduct target discovery and other research activities, specifically within kidney disease.

  • Perform advanced RNA sequencing methods and bioinformatics data analysis.

  • Take part in establishment of technology for targeted delivery of gene modifiers to selected kidney cell types using gene knock-in or knock-out.

  • Perform and troubleshoot biomarker assays.

  • Perform data analysis, interpretation, and reporting of study results.

  • Participate in internal innovation processes and idea generation.

  • Work in a multi-disciplinary environment with in vivo pharmacology, histology, imaging and computational scientists as well as external partners.

Professional qualifications:

  • A relevant life science M.Sc. degree (e.g. biology, biomedicine, biochemistry, bioinformatics etc.).

  • A strong scientific understanding of relevant disease areas, preferably metabolic diseases and kidney diseases.

  • Preferrable experience working with RNA sequencing, as well as biochemical- and immunoassays.

  • Preferably experience with gene expression analysis using programming languages such as R.

  • Strong literature search and scientific writing skills.

As a person you are:

  • Self-motivated and keen to take on responsibility.

  • Curious by nature, motivated by data and not afraid of technical challenges.

  • Proactive and able to initiate, focus and deliver on tasks and projects.

  • A true team player and eager to contribute to all workflows in the department.

  • Able to navigate and collaborate in an energetic and rapidly changing organization.

Please apply no later than May 25th, 2022 by uploading your motivated cover letter, resume and relevant diplomas on our website. Furthermore, please fill out and upload the excel file “Calculation sheet, industrial PhD [XLS]” which can be found on the Innovation Fund Denmark homepage (LINK).

We will invite candidates for interviews continuously, so we look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible. If you have questions about the position, please contact Department Manager Pernille Kongsbak-Wismann (pwi@gubra.dk).

About Gubra

Gubra is a company with a very dynamic and fast-paced drive. We have two primary areas of business: Preclinical contract research (CRO) services, and Proprietary early target and drug discovery programs.

We are a biotech company delivering science to our partners and to our own research projects. We are active in the so-called pre-clinical space - before drugs are tested in humans - and generate our revenue by performing research for small and large pharma companies.

Our focus is within the metabolic space (obesity, diabetes, NASH, and diabetic complications), where we specialize in in vivo pharmacology, peptide chemistry, molecular pharmacology, histology, stereology, imaging, NGS (next generation sequencing), bioinformatics and assays. We work with some of the most interesting and loyal partners and customers from across the world within big pharma, biotech, and academia. Through a constant focus on high quality, scientific excellence, speed, and solid teamwork we have established ourselves as a highly professional and competent partner in the market.

People are our greatest asset, and our team consists of +180 employees all located in Hørsholm, Denmark.
